Authorities in St. Petersburg, Russia, are investigating a shocking and tragic case involving a 13-year-old girl accused of murdering her mother, identified as 38-year-old Svetlana Cheglyakova, following an argument over her excessive social media use.
According to investigators, the conflict began after Svetlana confiscated her daughter’s mobile phone due to her reported addiction to social media platforms. The situation escalated violently when the teenager allegedly slit her mother’s throat during a confrontation.

Law enforcement sources say the girl then attempted to cover up the crime. She reportedly inflicted cuts on her own hands before setting the family home on fire in an effort to mislead investigators. When police arrived, the teen initially claimed an intruder had broken into their apartment, killed her mother, and left her wounded.
However, inconsistencies in her account quickly raised suspicions. Investigators later discovered that the teenager had previously acted out similar scenes in online games, suggesting the crime may have been premeditated. During interrogation, the girl eventually confessed, telling detectives she attacked her mother in the neck after they argued about her online activities.
The teen further alleged ongoing tension in their relationship, accusing her mother of monitoring her movements, restricting her social interactions, and frequently “bullying” her. She also claimed her mother had yelled at and slapped her shortly before the attack.
Law enforcement agencies have also reviewed the girl’s social media accounts, including TikTok, where she posted content related to the game Roblox. Reports from crime channel 112 noted eerie similarities between her alleged actions and scenes depicted in her gameplay, including characters in burning rooms and carrying injured figures.
The Russian Investigative Committee has launched a criminal case for murder. The teenager, who reportedly lived in a single-parent household following her parents’ separation, is currently receiving medical care in a hospital under police supervision.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the disturbing incident.
