A senior academic and publisher, Dr Abubakar Mohammed Sani, has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, Dr Sani, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Military Studies at the Abuja Leadership Centre, University of Abuja, and Managing Director of Sprezzatura Publishing Ltd, described the appointment as a timely and strategic decision given the country’s current security landscape.
General Musa, 58, bows out after a distinguished 34-year military career that saw him serve as Chief of Defence Staff between 2023 and 2025, Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, and Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force in the Lake Chad region. He is also a recipient of the Colin Powell Award for Soldiering (2012).
Dr Sani said the retired general’s vast operational experience, deep understanding of counter-insurgency operations and crisis management make him well-suited to lead the Ministry of Defence at a critical moment in the nation’s history.
He urged Nigerians across all sectors, including civil society, the private sector and the security community, to support the minister-designate as he works to strengthen the nation’s defence architecture, deepen regional cooperation and safeguard citizens’ lives and livelihoods.
Sani added that Sprezzatura Publishing Ltd would continue to provide accurate and timely coverage of activities within the Ministry of Defence and contribute to informed public engagement on national security matters.
