Senator Abba Moro, the Senate Minority Leader and representative of Benue South at the National Assembly, has refuted allegations made by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor of Benue State, Fr. Hyacinth Alia, accusing him of orchestrating plans to destabilize the state.
In a statement signed by Senator Moro on Monday, he expressed dismay at the claims and asserted the need to set the record straight for the benefit of the public.
Senator Moro labelled the accusations as “absurd, uncharitable, and laughable,” emphasizing his efforts to support the government of Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia. He highlighted his previous advisories to the governor against the dissolution of democratically elected councils in Benue State, stressing that such actions contravene the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The Senator clarified that his legislative actions were aimed at addressing constitutional violations and promoting accountability, rather than posing a threat to the state’s stability. He emphasized the importance of upholding democratic principles and urged the state government to reconsider its actions regarding the dissolved councils.
Furthermore, Senator Moro criticized the government’s response to concerns raised by the Benue State National Assembly caucus regarding insecurity in the state. He lamented the lack of proactive measures to address the plight of affected communities and called for a more responsible approach from the state government in safeguarding the lives and property of citizens.
In conclusion, Senator Moro urged the public to disregard the allegations against him and the National Assembly caucus, attributing them to an attempt to deflect accountability and divert attention from the government’s failures. He reiterated his commitment to advocating for the welfare of the people of Benue State and called on the government to prioritize the well-being of its citizens above political vendettas.
