By Ahmed Ahmed

The Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) on Tuesday sensitised the Miners Association of Nigeria (MAN) and stakeholders on the export process, procedures and documentation of solid minerals.

Mr Micheal Adams, Zonal Coordinator, NSC, at a one-day enlightenment programme in Bauchi, said that the programme was for the profitability of the shipping business.

Adams, represented by Mr Suleiman Hussaini, Assistant Director, Operations said that NSC initiated the sensitisation on export, to share experience and exchange ideas with other operators of the shipping industry.

”The NSC facilitates import and export business, it has been rendering services aimed at enhancing the profitability of shipping business and promoting a healthy national economy,” he said.

The zonal coordinator urged the miners and stakeholders to collaborate with the council on matters affecting the shipment of goods to and from Nigeria.

He said that NSC was saddled with the responsibility to institute effective regulation at ports and work with other government agencies.

Mr Yakubu Ajagai, Trade Promotion Advisor, Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC) described export as the sale of goods and services from one country to another against payment in foreign currency in a legal way.

He appealed to exporters to ensure specifications are maintained in compliance with buyers’ requirements which are normally written in sales contact.

Ajagai reiterated that NEPC was always ready to assist exporters in diversifying the economy from oil to a more sustainable path.

On his part, Alhaji Bello Galloji, state Chairman, MAN, commended the Shippers Council for organising the enlightenment programme for miners and stakeholders.

“The sensitisation on process procedures and documentation for export on solid minerals is apt,” he said.

Galloji appealed to the council to fast-track the establishment of a dry port proposed for Bauchi state.

He also urged miners to register with the association to enjoy benefits derived from the Shippers Council and also business transactions with other organisations,

Our correspondent reports that the stakeholders in the programme are government officials, Miners association, exporters and transporters.
