Soldier’s Death at 35 Artillery Brigade Abeokuta Not linked to Ration Cash Allowance – Army

The ongoing investigation into the recent incident involving a soldier at 35 Artillery Brigade, Abeokuta, reveals that the unfortunate event was not linked to non-payment of Ration Cash Allowance (RCA), contrary to social media insinuations.

The soldier in question was deployed for daily cantonment duty with his colleagues on Monday, January 15, 2024, at the Brigade Standby Force. They were adequately fed in accordance with the Nigerian Army’s standard for troops on duties.

However, the investigation has indicated that the deceased soldier handled his personal weapon negligently, resulting in an accidental discharge that led to his tragic death. Colleagues, upon hearing the gunshot, rushed to the scene only to find the soldier with gunshot wounds on his head.

A thorough inquiry is underway to uncover the immediate and possible remote causes of the incident. The soldier’s remains have been evacuated and deposited at the Federal Medical Center Abeokuta.

The Commander 35 Artillery Brigade has personally informed the deceased soldier’s family and extended heartfelt condolences and sympathy over the unfortunate incident.

“It is crucial to emphasise that the Division is dedicated to providing the necessary welfare to boost troop morale, aligning with the Chief of Army Staff’s Command Philosophy.
