Some Nigerian Preachers Should Be ‘Quarantined’ for Overemphasis on Prosperity, Says Apostle Osayi
Founder and President of the Remnant Christian Network, Apostle Arome Israel Osayi, has expressed concerns about the prevalence of an overzealous message of prosperity among preachers in Nigeria.
In a recent online message, Osayi disclosed that there is a need for some preachers to be “quarantined” for a substantial period to undergo adequate purging.
“If not because we are online, I have a list of preachers in Nigeria that should be quarantined for a long time, at least for five years, in order to have adequate purging,” Osayi remarked during his message.
He emphasized that the message of prosperity should not take precedence and that true prosperity is a product of alignment with God. “If the message of prosperity becomes a message that is in your front burner, you’re not useful to God,” he asserted.
Osayi urged caution regarding the type of prosperity messages listeners hear from preachers, noting that Jesus Christ did not call certain individuals who now hide under the message of prosperity to attract crowds.
“We need to be careful with the kind of prosperity message we preach. We have preachers Jesus did not call, but hiding under the message of prosperity and people trooping in there to tap from the prosperity,” he cautioned.
Osayi further stressed that prosperity is a consequence of alignment with God and that seeking the kingdom of God and aligning with His commandments are essential for prosperity.
“Your alignment with kingdom things makes you eligible for kingdom support. You are not born to receive kingdom support if your life is not adequately aligned with the kingdom of God, and doing what God wants us to do is the secret of prosperity,” he added.
The prosperity gospel, characterized by the belief that faith, positive thoughts, declarations, and donations to the church bring health, wealth, and happiness, has been a significant influence in Christianity since the early 20th century. Many Pentecostal churches in Africa, the US, and Europe are associated with this popular doctrine.
