Strengthening African Security: Nigerian, South African Defence Chiefs Forge Stronger Ties

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of Nigeria, Gen. Christopher Musa, has emphasized the need for stronger ties between the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) to tackle the diverse security challenges facing the African continent.

Gen. Musa made this call during his official visit to the Chief of SANDF, Gen. Rudzani Maphwanya, in Pretoria, South Africa. This was disclosed in a statement by the Acting Director of Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, on Tuesday in Abuja.

Describing the meeting as a crucial step in addressing the continent’s multifaceted challenges, Musa highlighted the importance of cooperation and strengthening bilateral ties. He noted that the closed-door meeting with his South African counterpart focused on various measures to tackle regional security issues.

“The exchange of expertise and the forging of stronger ties between the two countries were considered essential for the betterment of the continent,” Musa stated.

During the visit, Gen. Musa was honoured with Cannon Gun Salutes, signifying high regard. Gen. Maphwanya underscored the significance of the meeting, bringing together the military powers of Africa’s two largest economies.

The meeting was attended by SANDF Chiefs of Intelligence, Policy and Plans, International Affairs, Joint Operations, and other departmental chiefs, showcasing the collaborative effort to enhance African security.
