Super Eagles Gear Up for Crucial AFCON Qualifier Against Rwanda

By Matthew Eloyi

Coach Augustine Eguavoen has expressed confidence in his squad’s readiness as they prepare for Tuesday’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying clash against Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.

Following their emphatic 3-0 victory over Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Saturday, the Super Eagles are riding high.

“We have the right mentality now, and the mood in camp is excellent. Everyone is eager for us to pick up the three points in Rwanda and stay firmly on top of the qualifying table,” Eguavoen said.

Eguavoen also emphasised the team’s unified focus, stating, “We are here for business and I am happy that everyone is on the same page.”

The Nigerian team, led by NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, arrived in Kigali on Sunday, accompanied by 23 players and top officials.

Team captain William Ekong stressed the importance of staying focused. “Our target is the three points, and we have spoken among ourselves on the imperative of going hard for it from the first blast of the referee’s whistle,” Ekong said.

The match, scheduled for 3 p.m. local time (2 p.m. Nigeria time), promises to be a tough test as Rwanda comes into the game following a 1-1 draw against Libya.
