Tekno Partners with Mr Eazi to Propel African Music Forward
By Matthew Eloyi
Nigerian singer and record producer, Augustine Okechukwu, widely known as Tekno, has teamed up with emPawa Africa, the innovative platform founded by musical impresario Mr Eazi, to drive the evolution of African music.
Mr Eazi announced this significant development via a statement on X, formerly Twitter, on Wednesday.
According to Mr Eazi, the partnership will enable Tekno’s Cartel Music to release new and exciting tracks through emPawa Africa.
“This phase will see them partnering with African artistes at different stages of their careers, who want to maintain financial and creative freedom,” Mr Eazi stated. “Also, they can move from talent for hire to equity participation. It’s a first-of-its-kind deal for afrobeats. This game-changing collaboration will see Tekno’s Cartel Music releasing some exciting new music via emPawa Africa.”
Additionally, Mr Eazi revealed that Tekno plans to invest as a shareholder in emPawa Africa during the company’s next capital call round.
He highlighted that emPawa Africa has been at the forefront of discovering and nurturing emerging talent across the African continent, providing a launch pad for artists to shine on the global stage. “We have worked with artistes such as Joeboy, Major League DJz, Fave, King Promise, Minz, and DJ Neptune, among others.”
Commenting on the partnership, Tekno said, “This alliance with emPawa will provide an avenue to be a game-changer for the African music industry and a beacon of opportunity for artistes.”
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mr Eazi launched emPawa Africa in 2018 as a talent incubation initiative aimed at nurturing and supporting up-and-coming artistes in Africa.
Tekno joins Grammy-winning music producer Michaël Brun among those who have invested in emPawa.
Tekno’s new single is set to be released on Friday, May 24.
