The wife of the president commends IGP Egbetokun for gender-friendly policies in the Nigerian police force

The wife of the president, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has lauded the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for the gender-friendly policies of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) under him.

Senator Tinubu gave the accolade on Tuesday at the International Association of Women Police (IAMP) African Regional Training Conference at the Nigeria Police Resource Centre, Abuja.

This was contained in a press statement signed by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, Force headquarters, made available to journalists in Abuja.

The statement said that the nominees for the training include 520 delegates from over 18 African countries, including Nigeria, Angola, Botswana, Ghana, Liberia, Kenya, Malawi, Morocco, Niger, Namibia, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and the Congo.
“The conference is aimed at training female police officers and other security and law enforcement officers as well as equipping them with the knowledge and skills for battling crimes and security threats in a modern and evolving society, most especially in their various regions on the African continent.

The statement said that the 1st Lady, who was the special guest of honour and was represented by the wife of the Minister for Works, Racheal Umahi, made the case for the integration of gender perspectives into security policies.

“While encouraging more women to join the police and armed forces and advance in ranks, she stresses the need for education and training programmes to include gender sensitivity and awareness among security personnel.

He said that the 1st Lady highlighted the need to eliminate gender violence within security forces and empower women through projects like the Renewed Hope Initiatives.

On his part, the Chief Host of the conference, with the theme “Addressing Africa’s Security Challenges and Safety through Collaboration and Inclusivity,” IGP Egbetokun, was reassured of the commitment of the police management team to gender inclusivity at all levels.

As part of his vision of reform policies for the Force, Egbetokun, alongside other dignitaries, launched the new NPF Gender Policy, which would ensure gender sensitivity and inclusivity in the policy and operations of the Force.
