Tinubu Rejects Military Coup in Guinea-Bissau, Vows to Help Restore Democracy
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condemned the reported military takeover in Guinea-Bissau, declaring Nigeria’s firm opposition to any unconstitutional change of government in the West African nation.

In a statement released on Monday, Tinubu described the coup as “unacceptable” and reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to safeguarding democratic governance across the region. As Chair of ECOWAS, Tinubu pledged to work closely with regional leaders to ensure the swift restoration of constitutional order in Guinea-Bissau.
He warned that the destabilization of any West African country threatens the peace and security of the entire region, stressing that ECOWAS will not tolerate actions that undermine democratic institutions.
Tinubu affirmed that diplomatic engagements and coordinated measures are already underway, aimed at returning Guinea-Bissau to civilian rule and protecting the rights and freedoms of its citizens.
