President Bola Tinubu has signed into law the final amendments to the 2022 Electoral Act, describing the move as a critical step toward strengthening Nigeria’s democratic process.

The President said the amendments are focused on improving procedures, closing identified gaps, and providing greater clarity for electoral officials and participants. He emphasized that the reforms are not politically motivated but are aimed at refining the electoral process based on lessons learned from previous election cycles.
According to President Tinubu, serious democracies must continually review and improve their legal frameworks to reflect experience and emerging realities. He noted that voter confidence is built through deliberate actions that guarantee transparency and credibility at polling units and during the collation and declaration of results.
The President expressed appreciation to the National Assembly for its cooperation and sense of national responsibility in concluding the legislative process.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to continuously strengthening democratic institutions to ensure that the will of the people is expressed clearly, peacefully, and credibly.
President Tinubu stated that the work of deepening Nigeria’s democracy remains ongoing and assured citizens that efforts to improve the electoral system will not relent.
