Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), under Operation DESERT SANITY V, have recorded another major breakthrough in efforts to disrupt terrorist logistics and criminal supply networks in the region.

Acting on credible intelligence on January 23, 2026, soldiers arrested a 65-year-old suspected drug dealer, Hauwa Abulazeez, in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

Military sources said the suspect is believed to be a key supplier of cannabis sativa to Boko Haram terrorist elements operating across Askira Uba, Rumirgo, Gwahi, Wamdiyo, Uvu, and Gaya communities. She is also alleged to have played a central role in distributing the illicit substance within several parts of the North East theatre.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the drugs were sourced from Sarti Baruwa Local Government Area of Taraba State and transported through established routes for onward distribution. During the operation, troops recovered 14 compressed blocks of cannabis sativa, weighing approximately 30 kilograms, representing a significant interception intended to support criminal and terrorist activities.

The suspect is currently in custody undergoing preliminary investigation, while follow-up operations are ongoing to track and dismantle the wider trafficking network.

The military said the successful interception highlights the importance of cutting off illicit supply chains that fuel violence and instability. By denying terrorists access to such resources, the operation contributes to improved security, reduced criminal influence, and the restoration of lawful authority across affected communities.

Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating all forms of criminality in the North East through sustained, intelligence-driven operations.

The assurance was contained in a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), on January 25, 2026.
