Troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF) North East Operation HADIN KAI have successfully rescued 74 stranded members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) along the Buratai–Kamuya Road in Borno State.
The incident occurred at about 9:05 p.m. on Tuesday, when the corps members’ vehicles broke down near a forested area identified as a Boko Haram crossing point. The vigilant troops, using a Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) monitoring system, detected unusual movement involving three buses and immediately dispatched a quick response patrol team to the scene.
Upon arrival, the troops discovered 74 corps members—comprising 36 males and 38 females—stranded after their vehicles developed mechanical faults. The soldiers swiftly secured the area and rescued all the corps members, effectively preventing what could have been a potential abduction attempt by insurgents operating in the axis.
Preliminary findings indicated that the corps members had earlier been escorted from Maiduguri to Damaturu by troops of the 7 Division Garrison. However, after arriving in Damaturu, they reportedly continued their journey to Hawul Local Government Area without informing Sector 2 Headquarters or requesting additional armed escort from security agencies.

The rescued corps members have since been safely evacuated and are being accommodated at the Buratai Military Base, where arrangements are ongoing for their safe movement to their final destinations.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of citizens, maintaining robust security operations to deny terrorists freedom of action and ensure lasting peace in the North East.
The statement further urged members of the public to continue cooperating with security forces who remain steadfast in their mission to protect the nation.
