We Must Finish the Fight Against Insecurity Before Returning to Barracks – TRADOC Commander
By Matthew Eloyi
Maj. Gen. Kevin Aligbe, Commander of the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) of the Nigerian Army, has reaffirmed the military’s commitment to eliminating insecurity before its officers and men can return to the barracks.
Aligbe made this statement during a cocktail party held in Akure on Thursday night in honour of candidates participating in the 2024 Captain to Major Practical Promotion Examination (CMPPE).
Addressing the over 200 captains from various formations and units across the country, Aligbe commended their discipline and performance throughout the examination, which qualifies them for selection to attend the prestigious Junior Staff Course at Jaji or other staff colleges overseas.
“Your conduct during this examination shows discipline and readiness for the higher tasks ahead of you,” said Aligbe.
“Remember, some day one of you will be standing here giving the same remarks as Commander of TRADOC. But before then, we must finish the fight against insecurity, so we can return to the barracks and focus on other duties,” he added.
Aligbe highlighted that while the current mission involves tackling internal security challenges, officers could also be called upon for regional or global peacekeeping efforts.
He expressed confidence in the junior officers’ capabilities, charging them to always prioritize the nation’s interests.
Maj. Gen. Obinna Onubogu, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 2 Division, the chief host of the event, expressed gratitude to Army Headquarters for selecting the division to host the 2024 CMPPE.
Represented by Brig. Gen. John Lar, Commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure, Onubogu praised the candidates for their conduct and urged them to remain hopeful as they await the results.
The 2024 CMPPE marks a significant milestone in the career progression of Nigerian Army officers, further preparing them to take on greater responsibilities in the nation’s ongoing efforts to ensure peace and security.
