Women’s Day: Kastina Female Journalists tasks gov’t on gender-balanced
The Katsina state chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has tasked government at all level on gender-balanced appointment to ensure adequate representation of women in positions of power.
The union in a statement to join the global community in celebrating International Women’s Day equally called on governments to provide more gender-sensitive empowerment programmes in order to boost self-reliance among women.
According to NAWOJ, as theme for the Women’s Day celebration implies “Choose to Challenge”, NAWOJ will continue to mobilise and challenge the patriarchal status quo and influence social norms to facilitate the growth of women visionaries.
The statement which was signed by the Chairperson of the council in Katsina, Hannatu Mohammed, stated that the day aims to inspire, encourage and empower both women and men to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality in order to create a more inclusive world.
She said: “As we mark the 2021 International Women’s Day NAWOJ in Katsina state celebrates all the resilient women in Nigeria, Africa and around the world. The council amplifies the voices of its fearless members who represent the enormous potentials of women to call on all stakeholders to rededicate and reposition themselves in improving the quality-of-life of women”.
“Happy International Women’s Day, a day for global citizens to shine a spotlight on the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women,” Hannatu stated.
