Yobe Govt Clarifies Reports on Gaidam Attack, Says Civilians Affected by Airstrike in Borno
The Yobe State Government has dismissed online reports suggesting a direct attack on residents of Gaidam Local Government Area, describing the claims as misleading.
In a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Governor, Brig. Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam (Rtd), the government clarified that the incident in question was an airstrike carried out by the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI targeting Jilli, a known Boko Haram stronghold in Gubio Local Government Area.
According to the statement, the operation took place on Saturday, April 11, and was aimed at neutralising insurgent elements in the area.
However, it was disclosed that some civilians from Gaidam LGA who had travelled to the Jilli weekly market were inadvertently affected during the strike. The affected individuals have since been evacuated to Geidam Specialist Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.
The Yobe State Government urged the public to disregard misleading reports and rely on verified information, while reaffirming its commitment to the safety and well-being of its citizens.
