Young Boy Arrested in Kebbi for Allegedly Posing as Deaf to Spy for Kidnappers
Security operatives have arrested a young boy accused of acting as an informant for suspected kidnappers after allegedly pretending to be deaf for about one year to avoid suspicion.
The arrest followed disclosures made on Monday, March 2, 2026, by Abuzaitu Abubakar Yari in a Facebook post detailing the incident.
According to the account, the boy reportedly moved around communities while disguising himself as deaf, despite allegedly being able to hear and speak. The tactic, it was claimed, enabled him to gather information from residents without raising alarm.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed that he and two others were sent to Unguwar Makera Gandu to collect information about individuals within the area. He further claimed that those who trained them in sign language are based in Harasawa town in Kebbi State, while stating that he hails from Niger State.
The development has heightened concerns about the methods used by criminal networks to obtain intelligence within communities. Residents have been advised to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security authorities.
Authorities are expected to continue investigations to determine the full scope of the alleged operation and identify other individuals connected to the case.
