The donation, made on behalf of the Borno State Government, is part of the governor’s continued support for families of fallen heroes and personnel wounded in counter-insurgency operations.
As part of the initiative, Zulum visited the families of the late Lieutenant Colonel Umar Farouq, Lieutenant Colonel Salihu Iliyasu, and Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Saidu Paiko to personally commiserate with them.
During a visit to the family of the late Lt. Col. Salihu Iliyasu in Abuja, the governor, who was received by the deceased’s wives, Na’ima and Rakiya, expressed deep condolences and praised the officer’s service to the nation. He presented a cheque of ₦50 million to the family.
The governor also travelled to Niger and Kano states, where he presented ₦50 million each to the families of Lt. Col. Aliyu Saidu Paiko and Lt. Col. Umar Farouq.
Zulum commended the fallen officers for their gallantry, patriotism, and sacrifices in the ongoing fight against insurgency, noting that their contributions would not be forgotten.
Beyond military personnel, the governor has also extended similar support to families of volunteer forces killed in action, including the provision of scholarships for orphaned children.
He further assured that his administration would continue to stand by families of security personnel who paid the ultimate price in defence of the country.
The governor also offered prayers for the repose of the souls of the deceased and for strength for their families to bear the loss.
