Ten passengers sustained injuries in a multiple-vehicle crash on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, while emergency responders averted a possible train collision at Ilupeju Bypass after a commercial bus broke down on a railway track.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) disclosed this, explaining that the bridge accident occurred on Wednesday morning when a commercial bus stopped to repair a faulty tyre.
According to the agency, another commercial bus, whose driver was reportedly unaware of the situation ahead, rammed into the stationary vehicle. A trailer subsequently hit the second bus before fleeing the scene.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, administered first aid to the injured passengers and evacuated them to a hospital for further treatment.
The affected section of the bridge was also cleared, allowing traffic to resume.
In a separate incident at Ilupeju Bypass, LASEMA’s emergency response team removed a broken-down commercial bus from a railway track using a light tow truck, preventing a possible collision with an approaching train.
The agency urged motorists to avoid carrying out vehicle repairs on highways and bridges, stressing the importance of regular vehicle maintenance to prevent accidents and protect road users.
LASEMA also called on residents who require emergency assistance to contact the agency through the emergency telephone numbers 767 or 112.
