The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old housewife, Aisha Musa, for allegedly attempting to kill her husband by poisoning his food, barely 40 days after their wedding.
The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, in Gwamma Village, Bauchi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Thursday, August 13.
According to the Police, the suspect allegedly mixed a poisonous substance into her husband’s meal before he ate it.
The Command said it received a distress call from an anonymous woman following the incident, prompting police officers to immediately mobilise to the scene.
The victim was subsequently rushed to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
Police operatives arrested the suspect shortly after the alleged incident. She reportedly confessed during interrogation, while investigators recovered an empty bottle suspected to have contained the poison, alongside remnants of the meal, which were documented and preserved as exhibits.
The Police Command said investigation into the incident is ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged poisoning and determine the appropriate legal action.
The Command also reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged members of the public to promptly report suspicious or potentially dangerous incidents to security authorities.
