More than a traditional festival, the Naadam Fair is regarded as a living expression of Mongolian history, sports, and customs. This year’s edition marks a significant milestone with several innovations designed to expand its cultural and economic impact.

For the first time, the event is being held on the frozen Yimin River in Hailar District of Hulun Buir, offering visitors a unique winter setting that combines natural scenery with cultural performances and activities. Organizers say the new location adds a fresh dimension to the centuries-old festival.

Another major change is the extension of the fair throughout the entire winter tourism season. Instead of a short-term celebration, the Ice and Snow Naadam has been transformed into a daily cultural venue, allowing visitors to experience traditional sports, folk performances, and local customs over an extended period.

Officials say the updated format reflects efforts to merge cultural preservation with tourism development, positioning the Ice and Snow Naadam as a flagship winter attraction while keeping the spirit of the grasslands alive for new generations.
