The protester, Brian McGinnis, interrupted proceedings during the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness and Management Support hearing. McGinnis, who is also a Green Party candidate for the U.S. Senate in North Carolina, voiced opposition to military escalation before being escorted out of the chamber.
According to reports, officers of the United States Capitol Police moved quickly to remove him from the hearing room.
During the confrontation, Tim Sheehy, a Republican senator from Montana, intervened and later explained that he stepped in to help calm the situation and assist in de-escalating tensions as security personnel handled the disruption.
The incident briefly interrupted the hearing but proceedings later continued after order was restored.
