In a significant address at the ongoing 33rd Assembly of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) in London, Hon. Pst Ojotu Ojema, representing Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Standing Committee on National Inland Waterways, urged the 175 member states to foster collaboration for the realization of the IMO’s core objectives.

Speaking as a Nigerian Delegate on Friday, December 1, 2023, Ojema stressed the importance of sharing scientific, technical, and technological expertise among nations that have excelled in Maritime Transport.

According to a statement by his media aide, Olikita Ekani, on Saturday, the lawmaker called on developed member states to extend their knowledge to those lagging behind, emphasizing the need to bridge existing gaps for the overall advancement of the organization.

Commending the leadership of the IMO, Ojema lauded the organization as one of the most organized and formidable international entities. He expressed the view that the Nigerian Maritime Sector should intensify efforts to match the developmental achievements of other member states in the maritime domain.

The Assembly, held once every two years, serves as the highest governing body of the IMO. Ojema extended his best wishes to all delegates for a successful Assembly, recognizing the critical role the organization plays in global maritime affairs.

Nigeria, well-represented at the Assembly, has two key delegates: Sen. Wasiu Sanni Eshilokun, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Marine Transport and Senator representing Lagos Central, and Hon. Pst Ojotu Ojema, who serves as a delegate and will participate in the voting process for new leadership across different categories when the 33rd Assembly concludes.
