Tragic Auto Crash Claims Lives of Three Traditional Rulers in Oyo

...Nine Injured in Separate Accidents on the Same Day

Three traditional rulers from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State tragically lost their lives in a road accident on Friday, with nine others sustaining injuries in a separate incident on the same day.

Eyewitnesses reported that the fatal accident occurred at Aje Iye in Oriire Local Government Area, involving a Benz E230 with the registration number OLODOGBO and a commercial Scania Truck with registration number 301 XF.

Two of the affected monarchs reportedly lost their lives on the spot, while the third monarch succumbed to injuries a few hours later at the Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital, where he was rushed for medical attention.

Olawoyin Adekunle, an eyewitness, shared, “Six passengers were involved in the crash, but the three survivors are undergoing treatment at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital. The affected passengers were going for a social function at the nearby community when the accident occurred. The affected monarchs are Olodogbo of Odogbo, Onibowula of Bowula, and Alayetoro of Ayetoro in Oriire Local Government.”

The state Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Joshua Adekanye, confirmed the incident, describing it as a head-on collision between a private Benz and a commercial truck on the Ogbomoso-Oyo Expressway.

He stated, “The survivors are undergoing treatment at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital while the corpses of the victims have been deposited at the morgue of the same hospital.”

In a related development, Adekanye also confirmed another unfortunate incident where nine out of 13 persons suffered varying degrees of burns when a truck caught fire on Ogbomoso-Oyo Expressway on the same day. Thankfully, no lives were lost, and the injured individuals are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.
