The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja says the Nigerian Army is currently experiencing a vigorous and unusual operational, administrative, and institutional restructuring.

He said that doing so will increase the Army’s effectiveness and capacities in addressing the nation’s new security issues.

According to a statement made on Wednesday night by Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, the COAS made this announcement at the Headquarters 2 Division, Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, in Ibadan.

It partly read, “The Nigerian Army is currently undergoing vigorous and rare operational, administrative, and structural transformation to shore up its capabilities and efficiency in confronting emerging security challenges.”

He urged the soldiers not to fall behind in the transformation that is sweeping the Nigerian Army.

Lagbaja pointed out that the Federal Government had been providing the Nigerian Army with support in the form of supplies, combat enablers, and welfare support programmes to encourage soldiers for maximum operational effectiveness.

“The interventions received from the government include, clearing the backlog of Group Life Insurance scheme payment to Next of Kins of deceased personnel, Implementation of NA Accident Insurance scheme, Sponsorship cum scholarships for children and wards of personnel, who paid the supreme price, free welfare flights for troops in the front line, medical evacuation of personnel wounded in action for treatment, both in overseas and locally, as well as operationalization of Nigerian Army Aviation with the recent procurement of quantity 12 MD Cayuse Helicopters. He charged the troops to reciprocate the Federal Government’s support by remaining loyal to the Constitution and Government of the Federation, ” the statement added.

He reassured them that the difficulties the Division was facing would receive proper attention and stated that the wellbeing of the men was of utmost importance to him.

The COAS had earlier been briefed by Maj Gen Bamidele Alabi, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 2 Division, on the operational, training, and administrative activities of the Division as well as the security situation in its area of responsibility. However, he stressed that things are generally peaceful and stable.

The Army Chief also inaugurated the newly built Headquarters Central Ordnance Depot Administrative office complex in the cantonment.

Gen. Lagbaja declared during the opening of the office complex that the Central Ordnance Depot will be revitalised to offer the necessary logistical support to troops on the front lines in the ongoing drive to increase their operational effectiveness.
