On Christmas Day, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen TA Lagbaja, represented by Corps Commander Engineers Maj Gen PE Eromosele, treated troops of Exercise STILL WATERS III to a special Christmas lunch at the 9 Brigade Forward Operating Base in Ibafo along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. This initiative aligns with the COAS’s commitment to the welfare of personnel and their families.

Brig Gen AM Adetuyi, Commander 9 Brigade Nigerian Army, welcomed the troops and expressed delight at the Chief of Army Staff’s gesture, emphasising its positive impact on the morale of field-deployed troops during the festive season. He recounted the successful launch of Exercise STILL WATERS III and NODUF exercises at the same Forward Operating Base on October 10, 2023, aimed at securing the environment for the yuletide celebrations and curbing criminal activities.
Brig Gen Adetuyi highlighted achievements in the ongoing exercise, “there has been a reduction in armed robbery in Lagos Metropolis, decreased violent activities of cultists, lower incidents of drug-related violence, and notable progress in countering kidnapping. Additionally, there was a substantial drop in oil theft and pipeline vandalism within the Brigade’s Area of Responsibility,” he stated.
The COAS representative commended the troops for their sacrifices in maintaining security and ensuring law-abiding citizens can enjoy the festive season.
He reiterated the commitment to their welfare, which includes the anticipated delivery of helicopters and combat enablers in the coming year.
The COAS assured that the Army Headquarters has initiated various welfare projects to directly impact soldiers and their families, emphasizing continuous support for effective duty execution.
Encouraging commanders to spend quality time with their comrades, the COAS stressed the nation’s unwavering support for the troops in defeating adversaries for a peaceful Nigeria. Senior officers, including Director Army Real Estate Brig Gen SN Bitrus, unit/sub-unit commanders, and staff officers, attended the event, characterized by joyous moments, souvenir presentations, and group photographs.
