Educationist tasks school proprietors on conducive learning environment for students

The Proprietor of the Scholars Nursery and Primary School, Ilorin, Mr Timothy Ayodele, has urged stakeholders in the education sector to ensure the improvement of infrastructure and provision of a conducive learning environment for students in the country.

Ayodele, who said this in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Saturday, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), noted that most schools, both public and private, were unsuitable for students to cope.

He said that most proprietors and proprietress were equally not bothered about the safety and well-being of the students.

“Some schools are located in a waterlogged environment where students are being exposed to different kinds of diseases.” School proprietors and proprietress only care for the money and not students’ safety anymore. There is the need to prioritise students’ safety and ensure a very conducive learning environment.”

There are schools that are very close to rivers with mosquitoes and flies competing with students inside the classroom. Why won’t they fall sick in that situation?.

“Some schools are sited in a bushy environment. Learning inside the bush is very dangerous. They are exposed to reptiles and risk of kidnapping,” he said.The educationist urged all tiers of government and education stakeholders to ensure enforcement of healthy and conducive learning environment for students in schools.

He advised that a monitoring team should be set up to embark on monthly visits to schools to assess the school environments, be it private or public.

Ayodele advised school proprietors to improve the quality of their infrastructure for a better learning environment, including the consistent fumigation of school environments for students’ well-being.
