Major General Saraso Assumes Command as 43rd GOC
Major General MLD Saraso has officially assumed command as the 43rd General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 1 Division Nigerian Army (NA) and Force Commander Operation WHIRL PUNCH, marking a significant transition in leadership at the Division Headquarters in Kawo, Kaduna.
Outgoing GOC, Major General VU Okoro, expressed his gratitude to the Almighty God and Lt Gen TA Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, for the opportunity to lead the premier Division of the NA. “And to my colleagues, I appreciate you all for your support during my tenure and thereby urge you to offer the same to my successor,” he said, while congratulating Major General Saraso on his appointment and wishing him a successful tenure.
In his inaugural address as GOC, Major General Saraso commended Major General Okoro for the Division’s achievements in combating terrorism, insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, and other crimes. “I will trust in God and all of you, officers and soldiers, doe help, told build on the foundation and legacies left by my predecessor.” He thanked Lt Gen TA Lagbaja for entrusting him with the command of the prestigious Division.
Key moments of the ceremony included the signing of handing and taking over notes, the decoration of Major General Saraso with the 1 Division insignia, the handing over of the command flag, presentation of souvenirs to Major General Okoro, a farewell address to troops, and group photographs capturing the historic occasion.
