Operation FANSAN YAMMA Troops Rescue 10 Civilians in Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara
Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 10 civilians in separate operations across Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States as security forces intensify efforts to protect communities and counter terrorist activities in the region.
In Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State, troops on patrol on 19 August 2026 encountered a terrorist ambush. The troops responded swiftly, forcing the attackers to flee in disarray.
During the operation, five civilians were rescued and subsequently reunited with their families. Two motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing terrorists were also recovered.
In a separate operation conducted on 18 August, troops acting on credible intelligence about the abduction of three persons launched a search-and-rescue mission in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The operation resulted in the successful rescue of all three kidnapped victims, who were profiled before being handed over to the appropriate local authorities.
Also on 18 August, troops responded to reports of terrorist activity in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State. Their rapid deployment forced the terrorists to withdraw into the surrounding area, abandoning two captives.
The rescued victims, who had sustained gunshot wounds during their ordeal, were immediately evacuated to a medical facility for urgent treatment. Troops have continued efforts to track the fleeing terrorists and bring them to justice.
The Theatre Command commended the troops for their vigilance, courage and prompt response, assuring residents across the Joint Operations Area that operations against terrorist elements would be sustained.
The Command also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information on suspicious activities to security forces, stressing that community cooperation remains vital to protecting lives and property and restoring lasting peace across the North West.
