The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has graduated 120 personnel of the Wase Security Network following specialised training at the NSCDC Command and Staff College, Jos, aimed at strengthening grassroots security and complementing the efforts of conventional security agencies in Plateau State.

The passing-out parade ceremony of the Wase Security Network Private Guard Companies (PGCs) 2026 was held on Tuesday, November 3, at the Plateau State Stadium, Zaria Road, Jos.

As part of efforts to strengthen the operational capacity of the newly trained personnel, the Executive Chairman of Wase Local Government Area, Hon. Hamisu Anani, announced the provision of 25 motorcycles and two vehicles to enhance their mobility and access to communities across the local government.

Speaking at the ceremony, Anani described the establishment of the Wase Security Network as a deliberate initiative to strengthen community participation in protecting lives and property.

He explained that the network was designed to complement the activities of conventional security agencies through grassroots intelligence gathering, early warning information, and community engagement.

According to him, residents who understand the terrain, culture, and peculiar security challenges of their communities have important roles to play in preventing security threats and promoting peaceful coexistence.

The chairman charged the graduating personnel to uphold discipline, professionalism, respect for human rights, and non-partisanship in the discharge of their responsibilities.

He urged them to work closely with the NSCDC, the Nigeria Police Force, and other recognised security agencies, stressing that their responsibility was to complement, rather than compete with, existing security institutions.

Anani reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting legitimate efforts aimed at strengthening the security architecture of Wase, noting that the provision of motorcycles and vehicles would improve mobility and facilitate access to difficult terrains and remote communities.

He expressed appreciation to the Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, for approving the training, as well as the management and instructors of the NSCDC Command and Staff College, Jos, for equipping the personnel with the necessary skills and professional knowledge.

The chairman also commended Plateau State Governor Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang for his commitment to strengthening security and promoting peaceful coexistence across the state.

Representing Governor Mutfwang at the ceremony, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Ephraim Usman Gar, commended the Wase Local Government chairman for the initiative, describing it as a significant step towards strengthening grassroots security and complementing the efforts of conventional security agencies.

Usman, who disclosed that he had recently concluded a tour of the 17 local government areas of Plateau State, said the governor was pleased with the initiative and encouraged other council chairmen to emulate Wase by investing in community-based security arrangements.

He recalled that the state government had previously supported the training of youths under Operation Rainbow, adding that the Wase initiative demonstrated the growing commitment of local governments to strengthening the state’s security architecture.

The commissioner assured the people that Governor Mutfwang remained committed to providing the necessary support to the 17 local government areas in their efforts to protect lives and property.

Also speaking, the Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, represented by the Zonal Commander, Zone 16, Lafia, and Assistant Commandant-General Uko Aanietimfon Udo, commended the governor, the Wase Local Government chairman, and the NSCDC Command and Staff College for their contributions to the successful completion of the training.

Udo urged the graduates to remain humble, disciplined, and vigilant, emphasising that their deployment was a call to serve the people rather than an opportunity to exercise authority over them.

He stressed the importance of credible intelligence sharing, noting that effective collaboration between community-based security personnel and conventional security agencies would help identify and address security threats before they escalated.

He also commended the provision of motorcycles, observing that the equipment would enable personnel to access difficult terrains and remote communities while gathering relevant information.

In his vote of thanks, the Commandant of the NSCDC Command and Staff College, Jos, ACG Da Abifsi, expressed appreciation to the Commandant-General of the Corps, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, for his approval and commitment to capacity building for grassroots security.

Abifsi also thanked Governor Mutfwang for attending the ceremony as the reviewing officer, describing his presence as evidence of his administration’s commitment to peace and security in Plateau State.

He assured the Wase Local Government Council that the 120 personnel had been trained in accordance with NSCDC regulatory standards for Private Guard Companies.

He congratulated the graduates and urged them to uphold professionalism, discipline, and the laws governing private security operations.
