Kalthum Foundation for Peace Call for Action Amidst Nigeria’s Security Crisis

The Kalthum Foundation for Peace has raised a clarion call to address the deepening crisis of insecurity and the surge in kidnappings that have gripped Nigeria. The nation, endowed with vast resources, is now contending with a security landscape marred by the activities of insurgent groups, banditry, and a spike in criminal abductions, particularly of school children and vulnerable populations.

The persistent issue of abductions, which gained international notoriety with the Chibok School Girls’ kidnapping in 2014, continues to escalate, with over 4,000 reported abductions last year alone.

The recent increase in school kidnappings across Northern Nigeria has instilled fear and disrupted the education of hundreds of children.

In response to these alarming developments, the Kalthum Foundation for Peace urges the Nigerian government and security agencies to revamp their strategies and take decisive measures to curb the violence and lawlessness plaguing the country. The foundation also appeals to armed groups to lay down their arms, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, and calls for reconciliation and peace.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is called upon to tackle the underlying causes of insecurity, improve law enforcement, and protect Nigerian citizens,” Ambassador Immune Kalthum, President of the Kalthum Foundation for Peace, called out, emphasising the need for international collaboration to fight terrorism and restore Nigeria’s image on the global stage. “The time for action is now, as the nation seeks to reclaim its security and ensure the safety of its people,” concluded.
