TRADOC Advocates Stronger Synergy for Effective Leadership in Nigerian Army

By Matthew Eloyi

The Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) of the Nigerian Army has emphasized the importance of collaboration with other security agencies and the public to achieve effective leadership during both peace and wartime.

Speaking at the opening of a four-day workshop on doctrine and combat development leadership in Minna, TRADOC Commander Maj.-Gen. Kevin Aligbe underscored the need for partnerships to align with global trends in leadership.

“The Nigerian Army requires collaboration with other relevant partners if we are to benefit from the emerging global trend as regards effective leadership,” Aligbe stated.

He highlighted the trust placed in the officers and soldiers to fully embrace this leadership initiative, enhancing their skills in both peaceful and conflict situations.

The workshop, described by Aligbe as one of TRADOC’s key training activities for the year, aligns with the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja’s command philosophy of transforming the Nigerian Army into a professionally responsive force.

“This is necessary in transforming the Nigerian Army into a well-trained, equipped, and highly motivated force, towards achieving our constitutional responsibilities within a joint environment,” Aligbe said. He emphasized that the workshop serves as a critical platform to advance this goal.

Maj.-Gen. Aligbe also noted that the training aims to boost the abilities of officers and soldiers operating within joint environments, providing them with valuable tools and strategies for effective team management.

The Chief of Doctrine and Combat Development at TRADOC, Maj.-Gen. Jamin Jimoh added that the workshop would expose participants to the Nigerian Army’s experiences in combating insurgency.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ehiz Odigie-Okpataku, a resource person, discussed the psychological traits and challenges of leadership, offering strategies to overcome them.

The workshop, titled “Enhancing Doctrine and Combat Development in the Nigerian Army for Effective Leadership in a Joint Environment,” is part of TRADOC’s ongoing efforts to foster a more responsive and capable military force.
