The pledge was made on Thursday at the wreath-laying ceremony and the launch of the Emblem Appeal Week marking the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day, held at Ramat Square, Maiduguri.

Speaking at the solemn event, Dr. Kadafur described the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day as a moment of deep reflection and national gratitude. He said the occasion was set aside to honour the bravery, patriotism, and supreme sacrifice of men and women of the Armed Forces who laid down their lives in defence of Nigeria’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.

He noted that the peace and freedom enjoyed by Nigerians today were earned through courage, resilience, and selfless service, stressing that the sacrifices of fallen heroes remain a timeless symbol of national service and love for the country. According to him, remembrance goes beyond those who died on the battlefield to include veterans who returned with scars of war, as well as widows and children who continue to bear the burden of loss with dignity.

The Acting Governor emphasized that the Emblem Appeal Week is not merely ceremonial but a call to collective responsibility, urging individuals and institutions to demonstrate appreciation through tangible support for the welfare of ex-servicemen and families of fallen personnel. He reaffirmed the Borno State Government’s commitment to prioritising security, peace, and the wellbeing of serving and retired military personnel.

“As we wear the emblem, let it remind us of sacrifice, courage, and duty, and inspire us to uphold the ideals of unity, justice, patriotism, and selfless service for which our heroes fought,” Dr. Kadafur said, while praying for the peaceful repose of fallen heroes and strength for their families.

In his vote of thanks, the Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Borno State Chapter, Major A. M. Tijani (Rtd), highlighted the consistent support of the Borno State Government to the Legion and families of fallen heroes. He expressed profound gratitude on behalf of members of the Legion for the ₦50 million donation and the government’s continued commitment to the welfare of veterans and their dependants during the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Emblem Appeal Week.
