In a travel advisory issued on Sunday, the airline explained that the affected aircraft, an Embraer 190 operating Flight UN0503 from Akanu Ibiam International Airport, was parked at the domestic terminal preparing for its next scheduled flight when the incident occurred.

According to the airline, the aircraft was positioned in an open bay between two other planes when simultaneous ground movements triggered the accident. “While preparations were ongoing to board passengers for another scheduled flight, a nearby aircraft, having completed its own boarding process, commenced taxiing. At the same time, another aircraft was executing a pushback onto the taxi line,” the statement read.

The combined movements generated a strong jet blast that displaced ground equipment. A baggage trolley belonging to a ground handling company was caught in the blast and struck the United Nigeria Airlines plane, causing damage to critical external components, including the antenna and the forward fuselage near the nose landing gear.

The affected aircraft had been scheduled to operate Flight UN0500 at noon. The airline assured passengers that safety protocols are being reviewed and that the incident is under investigation to prevent future occurrences.

United Nigeria Airlines expressed regret for any inconvenience caused and thanked passengers for their understanding as it addressed the situation.
