The Sultan of Sokoto, represented by the Etsu Nupe, Yahaya Abubakar, alongside prominent traditional rulers and Islamic scholars, on Sunday led special prayers for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as he marked his 74th birthday in Abuja.

The prayer session, held at the National Mosque Abuja, drew governors, ministers, political figures, and worshippers from across the country. President Tinubu arrived shortly after 3:00 p.m., participated in the prayers, and later observed the Asr prayer with Muslim faithful before departing.

Speaking at the gathering, the Etsu Nupe described the event as a solemn spiritual exercise rather than a celebration, stressing the importance of continuous prayers for national peace, unity, and development. He also appealed for government support toward the maintenance and welfare of the National Mosque.

Similarly, the Emir of Keffi, Chindo Yamusa, commended the President’s efforts in addressing economic challenges and supporting states, noting that interventions in salary payments and infrastructure development were already yielding positive results, particularly in Nasarawa State.

Islamic scholars from various sects across Nigeria offered prayers for the President’s well-being and the country’s stability. The session featured the recitation of the Holy Qur’an 111 times by over 300 scholars, alongside special supplications for Nigeria’s progress.

Conveying the President’s appreciation, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin thanked religious leaders and attendees for their support, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to unity and national development.

The event concluded with prayers led by Professor Imam Ibrahim Maqari for lasting peace, prosperity, and stability in Nigeria.

A similar prayer session organised by the Arewa Think Tank was also held in Kaduna, attended by notable political and traditional leaders, further underscoring nationwide goodwill for the President on his birthday.
