During the visit, the IGP condemned the attack and paid a courtesy call on the state governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, to commiserate with the government and people of the state. He also visited the affected community for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation.
Disu disclosed that upon receiving the distress call, the Nigeria Police Force immediately launched a robust response, deploying the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, Usman Nadada, and the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Police Mobile Force, Francis Iwu, alongside multiple tactical units.
He noted that the coordinated efforts, carried out in collaboration with the military and other security agencies, have significantly de-escalated tensions in the area. Security personnel have since been strategically positioned, while intelligence-led operations continue to track down those responsible for the attack.
The IGP warned residents, particularly youths, against reprisals or acts of vigilantism, stressing that such actions could worsen the situation and undermine ongoing peace efforts.
In his remarks, Governor Mutfwang commended the police for their swift response, particularly acknowledging the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, and the role of the Police Mobile Force in containing the crisis.
However, the governor called for structural reforms, including the establishment of state police, and recommended the deployment of advanced surveillance technologies such as night drones with infrared capabilities to strengthen security operations.
He also emphasised the need for improved intelligence gathering by security units and pledged continued logistical support to the police, while highlighting challenges such as difficult terrain, manpower shortages, and operational limitations.
The IGP assured that he would brief President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the situation as part of ongoing national security coordination.
He urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, while supporting security agencies with credible information, reaffirming the Police Force’s commitment to protecting lives and property nationwide.
