IGP Disu Visits Zamfara, Honours Fallen Officers, Reaffirms Commitment to Fight Against Banditry

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Tuesday paid a working visit to Zamfara State, where he joined officers, families, and members of the public at the Islamic funeral prayer (Salat al-Janazah) held in honour of three police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

During the visit, the IGP also met with officers and men of the Zamfara State Police Command, offering condolences and reaffirming the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to intensify efforts against banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes across the state.

The police chief was received by senior government officials and security stakeholders, including the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Mallam Abubakar M. Nakwada, who represented the state governor at the funeral prayers and related engagements.

Addressing personnel of the command, IGP Disu described the fallen officers as brave and dedicated personnel who paid the ultimate sacrifice while confronting criminal elements threatening peace and security in Zamfara State.

He conveyed the condolences of the Force Management Team and the entire Nigeria Police Force to the families of the deceased officers, assuring them that the sacrifices of the fallen officers would never be forgotten.

The Inspector-General noted that although the loss was painful, it would further strengthen the resolve of the Force to sustain ongoing operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and restoring peace in affected communities.

He urged officers to remain focused, resilient, and professional in the discharge of their duties, stressing that security agencies would not allow criminal elements to undermine efforts to secure Zamfara State and other parts of the country.

The IGP also commended the command for its recent operational successes, including the arrest of criminal suspects, recovery of explosives and other dangerous materials, retrieval of stolen motorcycles, rescue of kidnapped victims, and successful offensives against armed bandits.

According to him, the achievements demonstrate the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing, operational commitment, and collaboration among security agencies in tackling security challenges.

He assured personnel of continued efforts by the Force leadership to improve operational capacity, logistics, welfare, and other resources required for effective policing, while emphasizing the importance of intelligence gathering, community partnership, and inter-agency cooperation.

IGP Disu further charged officers and men of the command to remain disciplined, dedicated, and steadfast in their constitutional responsibilities, noting that the greatest tribute to the fallen officers would be the continued pursuit of peace, security, and justice for the people of Zamfara State.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to supporting its personnel and strengthening ongoing efforts to protect lives and property, combat violent crime, and enhance public safety across the country.

The statement was signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, on June 16, 2026.
