Nigeria and the Republic of Türkiye have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in the solid minerals sector, in a move expected to deepen economic relations and expand investment opportunities between both countries.
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the Istanbul Natural Resources Summit held in Istanbul, Türkiye.
Speaking after the signing, Nigeria’s Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, said the partnership would enable Nigeria to benefit from Türkiye’s technological expertise and experience in key areas of the mining industry.
According to him, Nigeria intends to leverage Turkish capabilities in mining exploration, capacity building, digitisation, training and licensing systems to accelerate ongoing reforms and drive growth in the country’s solid minerals sector.
Alake, who also serves as Chairman of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group, stated that reforms introduced in Nigeria’s mining sector over the past three years had significantly improved the business environment and increased the sector’s attractiveness to investors.
He noted that the reforms were designed to promote transparency, strengthen regulation and create opportunities for sustainable investments within the industry.
On his part, Alparslan Bayraktar described the partnership as strategic and timely, stressing that evolving global energy realities require stronger cooperation and connectivity among nations.
Bayraktar commended the Nigerian government for reforms already implemented within the solid minerals sector and expressed confidence in the country’s investment potential.
He further stated that Turkish companies are showing growing interest in Nigeria and are eager to explore investment opportunities within the mining and natural resources industries.
The agreement is expected to open new avenues for technical collaboration, investment, knowledge exchange and long-term development in Nigeria’s solid minerals sector as both countries seek to strengthen economic ties.
