Police Arrest Notorious ‘One-Chance’ Kidnap Syndicate Linked to Murder of Nurse in Abuja

Operatives of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Special Tactical Squad under the Federal Intelligence Department have arrested members of a notorious armed robbery and “one-chance” kidnapping syndicate accused of terrorising residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The criminal gang is alleged to have been responsible for a series of abductions, robberies and killings of victims, including a nurse who was murdered along the Kubwa Expressway in January 2025 after being kidnapped.

Speaking on the development, the Commander of the Special Tactical Squad, Victor Ogbeide Godfrey, said the suspects were apprehended following an extensive intelligence-driven operation that lasted more than 18 months.

According to him, operatives carried out coordinated tactical operations and surveillance activities across several locations before successfully tracking down and arresting members of the syndicate.

The suspects are believed to have specialized in “one-chance” operations, a criminal tactic in which unsuspecting passengers are lured into vehicles, robbed, kidnapped and, in some cases, killed even after ransom payments have been made.

Police authorities said investigations are ongoing to uncover the full scope of the gang’s activities, identify additional victims and apprehend other members of the criminal network who may still be at large.

The arrest is being viewed as a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts by security agencies to tackle violent crimes and improve public safety within the Federal Capital Territory.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to dismantling criminal syndicates operating across the country and urged residents to continue providing credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing and combating crime.
