By Richard Akintade, Osogbo

The Director-General of the Imole Campaign Council (TICC) and Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, Lere Kamorudeen Oyewumi, has expressed concern over reports of escalating political violence in Osun State following the killing of Mr. Ajayi Rogba, an alleged supporter of the Accord Party in Esa Oke.

In a statement, Senator Oyewumi alleged that Rogba was attacked and fatally shot in the neck by assailants reportedly linked to political thugs in the area. According to preliminary reports, the incident was connected to preparations for an Accord Party rally scheduled to take place in Esa Oke.

The lawmaker noted that the killing comes amid reports of violent incidents in several parts of Osun State, including Osogbo, Akoda, Ilobu, Ilesa, Ile-Ife, and Ikire, raising concerns about public safety and increasing political tension ahead of future political activities in the state.

Senator Oyewumi extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, the people of Esa Oke, and other affected communities, stressing that every human life is valuable and deserving of protection.

He called for a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation into the incident, urging security agencies to identify and prosecute those responsible in accordance with the law.

The senator also appealed to key national security authorities, including Kayode Egbetokun, Adeola Ajayi, and Nuhu Ribadu, to intervene and take necessary steps to restore peace and public confidence in Osun State.

Oyewumi further urged law enforcement agencies to remain professional, neutral, and committed to protecting all citizens regardless of political affiliation. He emphasized that politics should never be driven by violence, intimidation, or loss of life.

He called on political actors across party lines to embrace tolerance, peaceful coexistence, and issue-based campaigns, noting that no political ambition is worth the life of any Nigerian.

The senator reaffirmed the commitment of the Accord Party to democratic principles and peaceful political engagement, insisting that acts of violence would not deter the party from participating in the democratic process.
