Troops Foil Kidnap Attempt, Rescue Eight Victims in Zamfara
Troops of Combat Team 2, Forward Operating Base (FOB) Kaura Namoda, under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled a kidnap attempt and rescued eight abducted victims during a firefight with suspected terrorists in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Security sources disclosed that the operation was carried out at about 8:30 p.m. on July 14, following credible intelligence on an ongoing kidnapping incident at Ungwan Rogo community.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the troops deployed to the area and engaged the armed terrorists in a fierce gun battle.
According to the sources, the terrorists fled the scene under intense military pressure, abandoning the eight kidnapped victims as well as two vehicles.
The troops successfully rescued all eight victims unharmed and recovered the abandoned vehicles.
Military authorities said troops have continued to dominate the general area through aggressive fighting patrols to prevent the terrorists from regrouping and to deny criminal elements freedom of movement.
The operation, according to the sources, underscores the sustained efforts of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to combat terrorism, protect vulnerable communities and enhance security across the North-West region.
