Army Foils Terrorist Attacks, Rescues 16 Civilians in Zamfara

Troops of the Nigerian Army have foiled separate attempts by suspected terrorists to abduct civilians in Kauran Namoda and Tsafe Local Government Areas of Zamfara State, rescuing a total of 16 people.

In the early hours of Friday, August 28, 2026, troops deployed in Kauran Namoda LGA responded to a distress call reporting an ongoing attack by suspected terrorists attempting to abduct residents of a community.

The troops swiftly mobilised to the area and engaged the attackers, forcing them to retreat in disarray.

Four male civilians were rescued unharmed, while the affected community was subsequently reinforced and secured by the troops.

In a separate operation later that day, troops operating in Tsafe LGA intercepted another attempt by suspected terrorists to abduct commuters along a major transit route.

The troops engaged the attackers in a heavy exchange of fire, compelling them to abandon their captives and flee the area.

A total of 12 passengers travelling in two commercial vehicles were rescued without injuries.

Following the intervention, normal traffic flow was restored along the route, while additional security measures were deployed to prevent further attacks and protect commuters.

The successful operations highlight the Nigerian Army’s continued efforts to protect civilians, disrupt terrorist activities and deny criminal elements freedom of action across Zamfara State.
