Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Luanda, Angola, where he will represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 21st Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU).

The high-level summit is expected to focus on strategies for conflict prevention, resolution and the promotion of lasting peace and stability across Africa.

Shettima will join African heads of state and government, as well as other key stakeholders, to deliberate on practical approaches to addressing the continent’s security challenges and strengthening collective mechanisms for preventing and resolving conflicts.

Nigeria, with its longstanding role in peacebuilding and conflict resolution across the continent, is expected to contribute significantly to discussions on strengthening African-led mechanisms for sustainable peace and security.

At the summit, the Vice President will deliver President Tinubu’s address, presenting Nigeria’s position on the issues under consideration and reaffirming the country’s commitment to promoting peace, stability and development across Africa.

The Vice President is accompanied by senior defence and security officials and is expected to return to Nigeria after concluding his engagements in Angola.
