Abdulsamad Rabiu Gains N2.7 Trillion as BUA Cement Shares Surge on Strong Earnings

Nigerian billionaire Abdul Samad Rabiu recorded a massive N2.7 trillion ($1.95 billion) increase in wealth within four trading sessions, following a sharp rally in shares of BUA Cement on the Nigerian Exchange.

The surge, recorded between April 27 and 30, saw the value of Rabiu’s 95.78 percent stake in the cement giant rise from N10.86 trillion to N13.56 trillion, positioning him as the week’s top gainer on the market.

Market analysts attribute the rally to the company’s stronger-than-expected first-quarter performance, which signaled renewed investor confidence in Nigeria’s cement sector amid sustained demand driven by construction activities.

BUA Cement posted a profit of N176.4 billion for the first quarter, more than double its earnings in the same period last year. The performance was supported by increased revenue and robust sales of bagged cement products.

The company also reported growth in its balance sheet, with total assets rising to N1.98 trillion, further strengthening its market position as Nigeria’s second-largest cement producer.

Industry observers note that the company’s ongoing expansion plans are also boosting investor sentiment. BUA Cement is currently scaling up its production capacity toward 20 million tonnes annually, backed by a $240 million investment programme aimed at meeting rising domestic and regional demand.

The latest market movement highlights growing investor appetite for industrial stocks, particularly in sectors linked to infrastructure and construction, as Nigeria continues to pursue economic growth through development projects.
