The Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings Plc, Herbert Wigwe, his wife and son have reportedly died in a helicopter crash in California near the Nevada border, United States of America.
The Federal Aviation Administration said that the Eurocopter EC130 helicopter crashed at around 10 p.m. local time near Nipton, Calif, an unincorporated community about 60 miles south of Las Vegas in eastern San Bernardino County.
It was unclear on Saturday morning where the helicopter departed from and where it was headed.
Efforts to get comments on the development from Access Holdings proved abortive as of the time of filing this report.
The Head of Media Relations at Access Holdings, Kunle Aderinokun, and some members of the media team did not take their calls or respond to messages.
However, according PUNCH, Rivers State Government has confirmed the development because Wigwe hailed from Rivers State.
The newspaper says when contacted by one of its correspondent, the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Joseph Johnson, confirmed the incident, describing it as shocking.
“Johnson, who spoke to our correspondent on the telephone on Saturday night, described the development as a big loss,” PUNCH reports.
“His (Wigwe’s) death is confirmed. It is a big loss to every sector. And not just himself, with his wife and son. It is very painful, ” the commissioner was quoted in the report.
Johnson said the state government would issue an official statement later.
