Adamawa State Government Reaffirms Commitment to Collaboration with USAID for Development

Adamawa State Government, under the leadership of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has reiterated its dedication to an ongoing partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to enhance economic growth, healthcare, gender equality, and capacity building in the state.

Governor Fintiri affirmed this commitment during a courtesy call by a delegation from USAID, led by Mission Director Mrs. Melissa A Jones, at the government house in Yola on Wednesday. The Governor emphasised the significance of diplomatic ties with international communities for the progress of Adamawa, highlighting ongoing efforts to boost the economy, particularly in the cattle business, where the state is constructing one of the largest cattle markets in sub-Saharan Africa.

Expressing appreciation for USAID’s support, Governor Fintiri said “we urge you to consider increased intervention in the health sector and capacity building. And to explore ways of supporting democracy in the state, emphasising the administration’s commitment to providing equal opportunities, especially for women.”

In her response, Mrs. Melissa A Jones, the Mission Director of USAID, commended Governor Fintiri for achievements such as signing the WASH Policy for improved hygiene and interventions in HIV/AIDS. She encouraged the Governor to sustain these humanitarian activities.

The delegation from USAID included Mr. Robert Drapcho, Director of Human Assistance, Ms. Lynda Ashadlu, Project Specialist Education, and Zainab Shuaibu, PMS Programme, among others.
