Africa’s leading philanthropist, Aliko Dangote, is collaborating with the Federal Government to break the cycle of poverty and malnutrition in Nigeria.

Vice President, Kashim Shettima has enlisted the Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) in the Nutrition Core Working Committee (NCWC) to address severe acute malnutrition in the country.

Described as the “intellectual powerhouse” by the Vice President, the NCWC will play a pivotal role in spearheading the fight against hunger and malnutrition nationwide. Mrs Zouera Youssoufou, Managing Director of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, affirmed the foundation’s commitment to contributing wholeheartedly to achieving a healthier, nourished, and more prosperous Nigeria.

As a member of the advisory group, the Aliko Dangote Foundation pledges to provide technical assistance and leverage resources to implement effective strategies outlined in the National Multisectoral Plan of Action for Food and Nutrition. The foundation’s focus extends beyond immediate relief to sustainable solutions that empower communities, enhance healthcare systems, and promote nutrition education.

Mrs Youssoufou highlighted that “malnutrition is a significant threat to the health and well-being of citizens, especially vulnerable children, and there is the need for a unified and concerted effort to address the contributing factors.” She commended the efforts of the Tinubu-led Federal Government to prioritise nutrition in its development agenda.

In recognition of the gravity of malnutrition’s threat to national growth and prosperity, the Federal Government inaugurated the Nutrition Core Working Committee (NCWC). Vice President Shettima referred to the committee as the “engine room” and “intellectual powerhouse” of the administration’s fight against severe acute malnutrition. He urged the committee to tackle the crisis starting from the most vulnerable communities, seeking their expert advice to draw a roadmap.
