The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a fundamental human rights suit filed by Abuja-based businesswoman Aisha Achimugu against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the search of her residence and the seizure of vehicles, jewellery and other items.

Justice M.S. Liman dismissed the suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/466/2026, on October 10, 2026, ruling that the EFCC had the statutory authority to search the businesswoman’s property following intelligence relating to alleged criminal activities.

Achimugu had approached the court to determine whether the commission’s search of her residence and seizure of her belongings violated her fundamental rights, particularly her right to privacy.

She also sought an order restraining the EFCC from allegedly threatening, harassing or invading her private residence, as well as ₦10 billion in damages for what she described as an invasion of her privacy.

Delivering judgment, Justice Liman held that the EFCC was empowered to conduct the search based on the intelligence it received concerning the alleged criminal activities.

The judge further ruled that Achimugu and her legal representatives had failed to establish sufficient grounds to justify the damages sought.

Consequently, the court dismissed the suit for lacking merit, describing it as frivolous and brought in bad faith, while rejecting the claim for ₦10 billion in compensation.

Reacting to the judgment, EFCC counsel Emenike Mgbemele welcomed the decision, describing it as being in the interest of justice. He also argued that the suit had been an attempt to waste the court’s time.
