Court Remands 27-Year-Old Man Over Alleged Theft of 22 Pairs of Women’s Underwear for Ritual Purposes in Adamawa
A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Yola, Adamawa State, has remanded a 27-year-old man, Muktar Shehu, at a correctional facility over allegations that he stole 22 pairs of women’s underwear and other clothing items for ritual purposes.
Muktar, a resident of Zango Ward in Jimeta, Yola North Local Government Area, was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court 3, presided over by Uwani Danladi, by the Adamawa State Police Command.
The defendant is facing allegations bordering on house trespass, theft and criminal charm.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) presented before the court by the prosecutor, Inspector Danjuma Hamidu, the defendant allegedly broke into the residence of a woman identified as Halima Yakubu on August 6, 2026, and stole 22 pairs of her underwear along with other clothes.
The prosecution told the court that during police interrogation, the defendant allegedly admitted taking the items for ritual purposes.
When the charges were read to him, Muktar pleaded guilty to the alleged offences.
Following his plea, the prosecutor applied to call a witness to corroborate the defendant’s admission and establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged offences.
The Chief Magistrate subsequently ordered that Muktar be remanded in a correctional facility, while the matter proceeds in accordance with the law.
The case highlights the importance of allowing due process to determine the facts and circumstances surrounding the allegations.
